The husby and I are approaching our 5-year anniversary and, as a special treat, we’re heading to New York City for some quality time. We try to make a point every year to take time to honor our wedding day and our marriage, the subtleties of which can get lost in everyday life.

Anyway, a few nights at The Plaza are just what the family counselor ordered. I was hanging out on the historic hotel’s website and I came across this wonderful photo of the Bernardaud China used in the Palm Court restaurant. Oh my!

While I love my wedding china, this pattern — called, appropriately, Grace — is right up my alley. The turquoise, navy and gold play together so nicely on the white ground. It’s classic and “now” at the same time. It’s formal, but I could totally see this being used everyday.

And I wonder if I can reproduce that richness on paper. à deux’s colors are shades of blue on white as well. Maybe I need a few place settings for serving guests in the studio.

This calls for afternoon tea, my friends.
